Zeagle Flathead LT with Z Second Stage
Product Review (submitted on 3 December 2009):The Flathead LT is the first reg I've purchased. I spent an enormous amount of time researching regs before buying, poring through reg reviews and ANSTI machine figures and searching for advice on dive forums . I was looking for a high-end reg at a good price. Unfortunately, most dive shops in Perth charge very high prices for their regs compared to internet stores. Not so Dive Tub.
Chriso was more than happy to price match overseas online sellers and he doesn't act like a salesman. He actually discouraged me from purchasing a more expensive Flathead 7 since I wasn't going to do any cold water diving.
In the end, I chose the Zeagle Flathead LT over other brands' high-end offerings because it offered me the best combination of price, performance, warranty and service for a reg <$1000.
The fact that you can service your own Zeagle reg after doing a course with Chriso sealed the deal for me.
Pros:
- breathes beautifully
- light weight and low profile
- Miflex hose for Z second stage
- great port placement for both LP and HP
- distinctive industrial look (black and chrome...nice)
- Z second purge button feels just right
- minimal bubble interference from Z second
- service kit availability and pricing
- servicing costs
- Zeagle warranty conditions and support
Cons (for me):
- mouthpiece (I prefer a Comfo-bite)
- no comfort swivel (maybe for next version?)
- no swappable exhaust tees
- no hose protectors (can add yourself...I like Oceanic)
The LT breathes beautifully (better than Aqualung Titan for me). The Z second has a Miflex hose and I find this makes a big difference in comfort - I don't get any jaw fatigue at all. It's also one of the lightest regs on the market so well suited for travelling. The cons I've mentioned are more personal preferences and would apply to many regs on the market.
I can highly recommend the Flathead LT. Thanks Chriso for your impeccable service and support.
Cheers,
Julius
